World Environment Day

World Environment day is celebrated on June 5th every year to promote awareness against environmental issues and turn key solutions. It is a global platform for public outreach with participation from over 143 countries. The main motive of World Environment day is to show that when people work united for a noble cause, results are positive.
The theme for World Environment day 2021 is Ecosystem Restoration. It means assisting in the recovery of ecosystems that have been degraded or destroyed as well as conserving the ecosystems that are still intact and safeguarding vulnerable livelihood in the context of covid 19. Ecosystem Restoration can happen by actively plating trees, by protecting the environment and reducing increased levels of pollution.
Ecosystem Restoration is also our single largest nature-based opportunity for climate change mitigation. The covid 19 pandemic is a reminder of the humanitarian and economic devastation unleashed if we don’t protect biodiversity. Restoring ecosystems will help us cope up with this ongoing pandemic as well as in preventing future pandemics which are caused when disturbances in the environment cause close interaction between humans and animals leading to the transmission of viruses.
The environment is one of the most important tools that nurtures us and helps us survive. So, isn’t it our duty to protect it from destruction and degradation? Yes, it is.
With the goal of restoring the relationship between humans and nature, our contribution to this global mission will surely make a difference. We can contribute by- planting more trees, making cities greener and cleaner by not littering, segregating waste properly, conserving electricity, saving water, using cloth bags instead of plastic bags, beach and river cleaning etc.
Its time to reimagine our relationships with nature and put nature at the heart of our decisions. On this World environment day let us all commit to the hard work of restoring our ecosystems and make peace with nature.
